This one of a kind, Major League "Transfer of Player" contract is signed boldly by both Boston Red Sox owner and president, Harry Frazee, and New York Yankees owner and president, Jacob Ruppert, who on December 26, 1919 made the fateful decision to sell George Herman "Babe" Ruth to the New York Yankees for $25,000, giving the Yankees literally the greatest baseball player in history for, legend has it, the start-up money necessary for then-Sox owner Harry Frazee to finance a new play.
This deal is known to this day as the "Curse of the Bambino," a superstitious curse evolving from the failure of the Boston Red Sox to win the World Series in the 86-year period from 1918 to 2004.
