Lindbergh gained instant world fame as a result of his Orteig Prize-willing solo nonstop flight from Roosevelt Field on Long Island, N.Y. to Le Bourget Field in Paris, France. He flew nearly 3,600 statute mile in a single-seat, single-engine, purpose-build Ryan monoplane.
