This remarkable 1861 pardon document signed by President Abraham Lincoln exonerates Navy officer Robert Craig of mutiny charges, capturing a powerful moment of presidential authority. On a Union Ship in 1860, Steward Andrew Mitchell was beaten to death. Craig was charged & found guilty, sentenced to 7 years in prison. After further review, President Lincoln pardoned Craig with this signed document on September 12th, 1861. Craig showed his gratitude by returning to the Navy, where he remained until his discharge following the end of the Civil War in October of 1865. Lincoln's signature is bold and has been graded Mint 9 by PSA/DNA. The document is encapsulated and includes a PSA Letter of Authenticity. A piece of American history tied to one of the nation’s most revered leaders.
